07 Oct Divine Portrait
This piece is a recent realization from my ongoing body of works on Mantra. As an artist, my journey has been slow as the path is intrinsically linked to my spiritual growth. The course on Sakta Tantra taught by Sravana came to me as a lumen (light) at a very special point in my path, bringing with it deeper understanding and illumination. This particular piece is a visualization of the Divine Mother, through the use of the bija (seed) mantra ‘Kleem’, associated with goddess Kali and/or goddess Durga. It is the first of a series and I propose to add ten more pieces that will use different bija mantras associated with the ten Tantric Goddesses known as the Dasa Mahavidyas.
I work with more abstract imagery instead of the usual figurative descriptions associated with Hinduism as for me it is more interesting to examine them as energies that are universal and relatable by people across the globe rather than creating cultural boundaries and proprietorship. This expansive inclusiveness to me is the core principle and appeal of Hindu philosophy #LumenHindu.
